Corsham Studios

There now seems to be some progress with the ongoing saga of the purchase of Spring Quarry from the Ministry of Defence, although the site looks exactly the same as it has done since the day the MOD abandoned it. However, North Wilts District Council were finalising the purchase just before Christmas and I am led to believe that Corsham Studios company is now leasing the site from the Council.

If you look at the Corsham Studios web site ( at www.corshamstudios.co.uk ) you will see an announcement that they have now acquired the Spring Quarry site.

Corsham Studios are now definitely trading and in fact I have seen their name on the credits for one of the BBC2 programmes "The Cars the Star" which appears to have been shot on location at the Yatesbury airfield near Calne and which was shown late last year.

The Early Days

When The Bath Chronicle ran a story on one of its inside pages on Friday January 22nd 1999 that there were plans to develop a new film studio in Spring Quarry, I must admit that I thought it was just another pipe dream.

I am delighted to say that I was wrong!

North Wiltshire District Council were then apparently in negotiations to buy the 35 acre site from the Ministry of Defence and were in turn to lease it to Spring Studios. This took far longer to achieve than was expected and I understand that this has only recently been completed.

The two main characters involved are the Chairman, Jeffery Thomas and Director of Operations, Nick Bigsby.

Obviously this will take some time to develop, but you can be sure that anything I hear will appear here ....
